Well, our plan for this week-end was to pack up the camper. But, if you noticed the weather report for the East Coast…we got a little snow. I think this area got in the range of 12-14 inches. This was very heart braking for me. On Tuesday and Wednesday the kids and I were out in the yard cleaning the interior of the camper and sorting through our things in the garage. I am more than ready to get on the road.
But, mark your calendar; we have set 3/26 for our leave date. Mike isn’t as settled on that date as I am. But, if we are going to do and see the things we want to see we need to get on the road.
Our plan is to leave here on that Monday and try to get to Canton, Ohio by Wednesday. My niece Katelyn lives there and we would like to stop in and see her along the way. Then we may dip down into Lexington, KY and meet up with my dad. Then we want to shoot across from there and see the Arch in St. Louis before making a beeline for Springdale. I am not sure if we will pass through Branson on our way to Springdale or not. But, we want to be in Springdale for Easter.
I spoke with Christopher, my ‘othah’ son, last week and he and his family will be in Springdale for Easter. We have not seen him since July 4th two summers ago. I am so excited to see him and Jen. But, they have also added a sweet little baby girl to their family. She is the second of our grandchildren, but the first we will get a chance to see. This time in Springdale is really shaping up to be a nice family reunion. So stay posted for a mess of family pictures.
Brace yourself for one of those long winded stories: Christopher calls me his ‘othah mothah’; a play on my New England accent and sort of a family inside joke. When Dani was little I could say ‘go tell your brother such and so’ and she knew I meant Asa. Then Levi came along and there was always the question ‘which brother?’ and I would have to specify. Then, Joshua came along and I would tell her to go tell her brother something and she would ask ‘you mean Asa or Levi?’ and I would say ‘no, your other brother’. Well, I don’t know if any of you remember the sit-com Newhart. But, there was a character in the show and he has two brothers, Daryl and his other brother Daryl. Well, when the boys were a bit younger I would say to one of them ‘go tell your brother such and so’ and they would say ‘you mean, X?’ and I would have to say ‘no, your other brother’. This would go on for a bit and end in ‘no, your other brother, Daryl’. Well, they knew we really didn’t have a Daryl around the house and it was just something wacky that mum would say. So, the time came for us to re-station and during that move we went to North Carolina to see Christopher. The two younger boys had not yet met Christopher and we had done our best to explain to them who Christopher was. But, to them he was just ‘another brother’. That night we all went out to dinner and while we were sitting there eating Levi walks up to Chris and says ‘you must be Daryl’. Of course Mike and I just bust out laughing and Chris was looking at us like we had lost our minds. So, we had to explain the whole thing to him and that is how he got to calling me his ‘othah mothah’. He is my ‘othah’ son and I am his ‘othah mothah’.
So, stay tuned for more travel plans, pictures of the trip and family updates. If I get bored I may just post lots of silly stories about the kids’ latest antics. I am sure the folks at Harvard will appreciate that seeing how Mike isn’t there with his daily ‘Caleb Story’.
